Brett Ratner - I'm not a big fan or even a small fan of Ratner at all. I just happen to have seen all his movies. So anyway, here's how I rank them.

  1. X-Men 3 - I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. It wasn't as thoughtful as the first two, but he didn't ruin it, and it was entertaining.
  2. Rush Hour - Not great, just pretty good. Better production values than the average Jackie Chan flick, but much worse fight scenes. For the fights, they should just let Jackie direct. White people don't know how to film him at all.
  3. Money Talks - Kind of a random Chris Tucker film. Reasonably entertaining and funny.
  4. The Family Man - This movie's all right but really cheesy and the fundamental plot element doesn't make sense. It's random. That's actually the same problem I have with Groundhog Day. The central plot element is never explained. Dunno why this doesn't bother other people but I can't get over that.
  5. Rush Hour 2 - I hated this movie. I cannot express how much I disliked this movie. Ugh. There was nothing good about this movie. It angers me that it made so much money.
  6. Whatever Happened To Mason Reese? - It's an extra on the Rush Hour DVD. Something like a short student film he did. Not only is it terrible in every way, but it's deeply depressing. I'm talking Grave Of The Fireflies level here.

M. Night Shyamalan - Definitely a better director than Ratner. Unfortunately, he can be more boring. Anyway, here's how I rank his films that I've seen.

  1. The Sixth Sense - One of my favorite movies of all time. Some people think it's slow, but I think it's a nearly flawless film, in terms of construction and execution. Love this movie.
  2. Unbreakable - Kinda interesting movie. Maybe a 2.5 star movie. But yeah, kinda too much like Sixth Sense at the end but it's still kind of interesting. The problem is, it's glacially slow. Someone described it as being 2 acts of a 3 act movie stretched out to a full movie. I concur. If it tightened up the movie and added to the end, it could have been a great movie.
  3. Signs - 1.5 stars. The more I think about it, the less I like it. It's not as slow as Unbreakable, punctuated with more humor and stuff, but so much about it doesn't make sense. But Jieun loved it. I dunno, I'm starting to think Jieun's more appreciative of film than I am. Like a lot of critics, Jieun liked this and also Amelie. I didn't get either of those films. But whatever.
