  • Is really good for cakes and stuff. There's on in Santa Clara and Palo Alto, that I know of.
  • Prolific oven in palo alto. They’re known for their chocolate on chocolate, chocolate mocha, chocolate rum and carrot cakes. They are sooo good.
  • prolific bakery over by the rivermark, they have some nice cakes over there
  • When it comes to chocolate cakes, I buy from the Prolific Oven in Palo Alto, on Waverly Street. Chocolate on Chocolate, Chocolate Mocha, and my favorite Chocolate Rum are all amazing. You can't go wrong with any of them. They are also sold in different sizes.
  • The Prolific Oven in Palo Alto is to die for! Their cakes are sooooo delicious!
  • The Prolific Oven in palo alto (half block of university ave.) is amazing. great chocolate concoctions. :)
  • Prolific Oven in Palo Alto does a chocolate on chocolate cake that is insanely good. I believe they have several locations in the South Bay/Peninsula.
  • You should definitely check out The Prolific Oven - they make cakes only with natural ingredients - no artificial colors, only season fresh fruits & an awesome taste... You will find them on the web... The most north for you would be in Palo Alto...
  • I tried them for my wife's birthday and they were pretty good.

Citizen cake

  • Citizen cake is amazing. However, it is expensive...
  • citizen cake (hayes & gough, i think) is also quite good.
  • Pricier
  • There is "citizen cake" in SF if you want to be "chi-chi".
  • Tres yummy

Costco

  • Costco has a to die for "Chocolate Cake", quite large, very yummy.
  • Costco's sheet cake is about $14.00. Yummy! Sheet cake can be gross, but theirs is really good. I always go for chocolate, and the carrot cake is good too. They have regular white/vanilla, but I have never tried it. If you don't want a sheet cake, they also sell really delicious chocolate cake. They have about 5 other tarts/cakes too, but if it isn't chocolate, I usually don't think it's worth the calories. Everything I have had from their bakery has been good so far.
  • If quantity is required over and above quality then CostCo is a good choice (ideal for celebrating birthdays at work). The cake and frosting are tasty and well presented but probably lack the personal touch of a custom made item.
  • Costco's cakes are fantastic

La Patisserie

  • in Cupertino over by the Elephant Bar on Stevens Creek Blvd. Ask for Death By Chocolate. It delivers.
  • La Patisserie in Cupertino is great.
  • you can't beat La Patisserie in Cupertino

Shubert’s

  • on Clement. They’re an old time bakery where you walk into the store and it smells like a bakery. Not pricey at all. Beautifully decorated cakes. Light and airy, not too sweet. They’re known for their tiramisu cakes and the mango mousse cakes.
  • I'll recommend Schubert's Bakery on Clement and 5th ave. Not sure how pricey you're thinking but worth checking it out. Yummy mousse cakes!!
  • I would totally recommend Schubert's bakery on clement st. in San Francisco

satura cakes

  • satura cakes in los gatos just opened - very good stuff
  • Try Satura Cakes in Downtown Los Altos and new shop in Downtown PA. Much better, you can actually sit down and eat there.
  • Satura Cake is really good. They have 2 stores, one in Los Altos and one in Palo Alto. Cakes are quite pricey but super delicious. I go there every weekend.

You’d have to ask if they do very large cakes (we just bought two smaller ones) but they are outstanding. I recommend the gingerbread (but they have chocolate). It is in the Ferry Building.

== Katrina Rozelle Pastries (510) 655-3209 - 5931 College Ave, Oakland, CA

  • They do more than just wedding cakes and have an assortment of cakes and cookies available. This is worth the drive especially since it is in the Rockridge area of Oakland. Lot's of great places to eat while you are there.

Murata Cafe Hana

Just Desserts has great cakes. They have a bakery in Palo Alto and a few in SF.

Hong Kong Bakery

Hong Kong Bakery in Mountain View on Castro has great cakes. They are they not-so-sweet spongecake with fruit and whipped cream. Love them. They also have great dumplings and buns.

Epee d'Or

(I think that's the name) at Stevens Creek and Wolfe (north-west corner). I think it's run by Koreans, but the bread is very similar to Japanese shoku-pan. I'm not sure about the cakes, but would assume they're similar to Japanese.

Clover Bakery

There's also Clover Bakery in the shopping center with Misawa & Kinokuniya Books (just south of 280 on Saratoga Ave).
