Schaub

  • Schaub in palo alto is my all-time favorite butcher shop. Great quality... Try the fred steak. It's super easy to make. Check it out on local.yahoo.com. You'll find reviews plus links to other articles on the place.
  • Schaub's at Stanford Shopping Center is great! Ask them about Fred's Sirloin... Whooo baby!
  • The first that comes to my mind is in the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, called Schaub's...

Draeger's

  • Los Gatos, San Mateo
  • Draeger's also has excellent quality meats (and everything else), but they are quite expensive.
  • On the peninsula, Draeger's in San Mateo.

PW Market

  • PW market in Cupertino; they sell prime graded beef.

Dittmer's

(3 recs) Mountain View

Whole Foods

2 recs

  • You should also try Whole Foods, the quality of their meat is excellent and expensive too!

Golden Gate Meat Company

  • Golden gate meat company in SF (in the ferry building) is the best butcher I've found in San Francisco. Most of their beef is aged. Call ahead and you can specify how long you'd like them to age a specific cut, or just show up and see what they have. They can get just about anything with a day or so notice if you call ahead.

Piazza's

  • I love Piazza's meat counter. Located in Palo Alto and San Mateo.

Cosentino's

  • Also an excellent "inside the grocery store" butcher is Cosentino's. There is one in San Jose and one in Santa Clara (off Lawrence & Homestead---I go to that one regularly). They prepare the cut exactly as you wish.

Bryan's Meats

  • In San Francisco, Bryan's Meats.

Cafe Rouge

  • In Berkeley, the Cafe Rouge meat market.

Niman Ranch

  • You can order from niman ranch online and they deliver....

Los Gatos Meats

I'm not sure what types they sell but I've had their chicken, and some other meats and they are GREAT. You can pre-order and they'll have it ready for you. You can also special order...my boss wanted some venison jerky, individually packaged and they did a great job.
