As some of you may know, I used to be a fairly big Saved By The Bell fan. I mean, I tried to watch it when I could. It was a good show. I even watched the College Years while it was on. Anyway, you can tell it was a quality show because the cast all became so successful. Kelly Kapowski’s on 90210 now and made for TV movies. I forgot the other girl’s name but you know, she was in the seminal film Showgirls (I don’t know what “seminal” means, but it seems appropriate to use it with “film”) and the First Wives Club and other movies. Slater is on some syndicated TV series about biker police on the beach. Zack is in the movie Dead Man on Campus and will be in some TV series in the fall. Screech is on Saved By The Bell: The New Class. And Lisa Turtle is on a Head and Shoulders commercial I just saw. So they’ve all done quite well. The talent on the show is estimable.
By the way, did you know that the show originally featured Hayley Mills and was called Good Morning Miss Bliss? I saw some of those episodes. Zack’s the only character who stayed from that era, and he looks a lot different. Also, Tori Spelling appears in a few episodes as Screech’s love interest or something like that, if you can believe it. Also, after that golden era, and before the College Years, there were a few more episodes with other characters but they didn’t have the magic of the golden era. Thought you might want to know.
I was at church today and talking to a friend who has been in Korea the past month. Like most kyopos, he went to Onnuri and met every other Korean American Christian in Seoul. At any rate, he was showing me some CDs he got, and one of them was from a guy who used to be on Solid, that Korean pop group. It seems to be pretty standard Korean pop, but it’s cool because he’s Christian and has a couple Christian songs on the CD. But cooler than that is the people he got to help out on the CD. Abraham Laborial plays bass! Maybe you don’t know this guy but he plays on a lot of praise CDs and has some boring instrumental CDs, but this man is dope on bass. It’s insane. Also, one of the guys from Take 6 sings on the CD. How the heck did he get these people? That excited me.
Also, my sister came home for the long weekend and I just found out she has a class with Ricky Williams. If you don’t know, he’s the preseason favorite to win the Heisman Trophy , a running back from University of Texas. That’s pretty dope. Except my sister is an elementary education major and the class is called something like children’s movement, and the first day included the Hokey Pokey. My sister Hokey Pokeyed with Ricky Williams! Wow!
