So, no one’s asking for it, but, here’s my advice to people going to Urbana. Not advice really. More, what I would do if I could do it over again, or if I were going again. These are the things I did most wrong.

  • Get lots of rest. Just, I was tired the entire time, and that detracted from things a lot. I’d make sure I got enough sleep before hand and during. Also, don’t drive to Urbana from Houston. Not conducive to rest.
  • Don’t try to do everything. I don’t know, this was what I did, I think, went to everything I could to maximize the opportunities there, but I suffered for it, just in terms of being stretched too thin and in being physically tired. If I went again, I’d do less, go to less things, and maximize my energy on those few things. But that’s just me.
  • Remember it’s a missions conference, and go for missions. I don’t know, my take is just that if your mindset is on missions, then Urbana is one of the most incredible resources on earth. Just, a collection of all these different resources in one place. It’s pretty amazing. But if your focus isn’t on missions, it’s a complete waste of your time. That’s my claim. Anyway, when I went I was half and half. I think I learned a lot about missions, but part of me viewed it as just a Christian conference, and so I didn’t get as much as I could have. Now that I think about it, I kind of wish I was going. Just, it’s just as valuable, I’d say, probably even more so, after you’ve gone on a short term trip, just because it clarifies what you’re looking for and stuff like that. I don’t know, I think people like Ryu2, xacto, georgie, are gonna have a good time because they know what they’re looking for. But whatever.

But yeah, just remember it’s a missions conference, and focus on that. That’s something I’d do more if I went again.

I don’t know, Dave and Henry went last time also, maybe they could say something, but it’s probably too late. My friend Fara is working the armory – say hello if you see her. And my cousin Susan Van Riesen is speaking – when she starts, yell loudly, “Chi-Hua!” It will be like a little joke between the readers of this page at the conference.

I don’t know, I’m pretty excited for the people going. It’s gonna rock.
