Danny ChaiAdrian recently subscribed me to Rolling Stone and it’s actually a really interesting magazine. They had a recent issue on American Icons with a bunch of guest writers on various topics. Like Arthur Schlesinger Jr. on the American flag, Martin Scorsese on the leading man. Anyway, they also had Marilyn Manson, Courtney Love and a guy from Blink-182 write essays. Love’s was predictably scattered and confusing. But the other 2 were pretty good. Manson’s in particular was quite cogent and well written. The Blink-182 guy got off the best line though. “I can name the newscaster on The Simpsons but I can’t name my own congressman. And that’s what makes America great.”
