While watching ESPN in our hotel room, I saw this commercial for Songs 4 Worship: Country, a bunch of worship songs covered by country artists. And I was intrigued, almost enough to buy it.

So I’ve been to New York 6 times now. Believe it or not, if you count zygote and embryonic stage, Abby has been to New York 4 times, which is insane. I love New York. Couldn’t live there, but I always like visiting. As opposed to Chicago. No offense, it’s nice and all, but I’m over it, and would be fine never going there again.

Anyway, the first time I visit somewhere, it’s about seeing sights. The next time, about food. After that though, it’s just about people; that’s all I really care about doing. And we got to see people on our trip, which was good.

We did partook of a little food while there. Some thoughts:

I’m sorry, but I don’t get the supposed superiority of New York bagels. We went out of our way to go to some “awesome” bagel place. Eh. I mean, it was good, but that’s all. Maybe I have unrefined tastes for being totally satisfied with Noah’s “it’s not even authentic – steamed not boiled” Bagels, but I am.

(Other foods I have unrefined tastes for: chocolate (I remember Bri@n Chu once saying how he doesn’t like chocolate but Belgian chocolate is amazing. other friends have raved about Maison du Chocolate (sp?), that French chain. I’ve had both and I recognize, but don’t particularly appreciate, the difference. I’m perfectly happy with my Nestle Crunch), wine, rice (my parents were raving about this freshly harvested rice they got in December. It was pretty good, but I mean, it’s just rice. I couldn’t really appreciate the difference).)

I also don’t get New York style hot dogs. That goes for Chicago-style hot dogs also. I love both Chicago-style and New York-style pizza. But with hot dogs, Chicago style is too messy (and random); New York almost too simple. Definitely too thin. They’re both still good, but to me, neither is the pinnacle of hot dog experience.

I have come to appreciate the chili dogs at James Coney Island more though. Nuwanda has always raved about the place. At first I didn’t get it, thought maybe it was a childhood nostalgia thing. But I’ve come around and enjoy the chili dogs there now quite a bit. Enough that I try to make a quick trip there when I’m in Houston.

I really wanted to try the supposed best pizza in America but he was on vacation. Quite sad about that. Especially since I don’t anticipate being back in NYC any time soon.
