This thing is awesome. Basically you type in a name and it shows you visually the popularity of that name through the past century. Utterly fascinating.

Some popularity peaks and current ranking (in 2003) of kids at church, in roughly most to least current popularity:

  • Emily: Most popular in 2003 (1st!)
  • Emma: Most popular in 2003 (2nd!)
  • Ashley: Most popular in 1980 (4th). Currently 8th.
  • Christopher: Most popular in 1980 (2nd). Currently 9th.
  • Sarah: Most popular in 1980 (5th). Currently 12th.
  • Nathan: Most popular in 2003 (27th)
  • Rebecca: Most popular in 1970 (13th). Currently 64th.
  • Isabel: Most popular in 2003 (82nd).
  • Evelyn: Most popular in 1910 (11th). Currently 89th.
  • Grant: Most popular in 2003 (140th)
  • Peter: Most popular in 1950 (39th). Currently 148th.
  • Kendra: Most popular in 1990 (133rd). Currently 261st.
  • Bennett: Most popular in 2003 (431st)
  • Everett: Most popular in 1900 (82nd). Currently 575th.
  • Stewart: Most popular in 1900 (327th most popular baby name) and 1950 (326th). Currently not in top 1000.

The other kids I either forgot or weren’t on the list. I checked some other names also. Random – Sinclair was never in the top 1000, but Sincere was the 722nd most popular name in 2003. Sincere??? And Elbert was the 166th most popular name in 1910. In comparison, that’s far more popular than Tony is today (303rd). Weird.
